I was super pleased with the simplicity of Google Cloud relative to AWS.

Live Fog Tracking for San Francisco

Website: karl.cam

I built KarlCam during this extra cold San Francisco summer, when the fog seemed to never leave. The motivation was simple: I wanted a real-time way to see where in the city it was actually sunny.

Why I Built This

The fog in San Francisco is incredibly localized. While one neighborhood might be completely socked in, another just a mile away could be bathed in sunshine. I needed a tool to help me find the sun.

Technical Implementation

I built KarlCam on Google Cloud, hoping to find an easier and more streamlined way to deploy web applications compared to my previous AWS and self-hosted experiences. The project combines computer vision techniques with real-time data processing to track fog patterns across the city.
